Sports car and karting of Serbia, after just one month, organized another race on the Avala route, under the name “VI Belgrade Rally Memorial Mirko Martinovic”.
It’s an opportunity to remind you how old Avala has been attractive to speed lovers since ancient times. The first car and motorcycle races in Belgrade were held 93 years ago, more precisely in the summer of 1924, in Banjica, and very soon afterwards the vehicle race was alongside Avala too. Famous Belgrade motorcyclist, Dorćolac VOJA IVANIŠEVIĆ, achieved his first victory in 1928, at the Avala, at the wheel of the motorcycle “Sarolea”. The races was held on Avala and immediately after the Second World War, and when the championship of Yugoslavia on the mountain paths was established in 1971, in six classes, AVALA was occasionally in the program of some competitions, so the older ones remember the MAGLE CUP on Avala. The traditional YU RELI has repeatedly had a speed test at Avala, when it was held the “Big Avala race”, that was going uphill and then downhill.
